Bishops from DRC, Burundi and Rwanda advocate dialogue as a cure for conflict
The Bishops members of the Association of Episcopal Conferences of Central Africa (ACEAC) encourage politicians to develop dialogue as a way of resolving conflicts.
This was announced during the 13th Ordinary Plenary Assembly of Bishops
members of the Association of Episcopal Conferences of Central Africa (ACEAC),
held in Kinshasa from 24 to 26 June 2019.
The Episcopal Conferences of Burundi, DR Congo and
Rwanda have expressed the desire to renew decisions taken in the past. The
Catholic bishop of the region expects to carry out advocacy missions on issues
of migration, natural resources, the environment, justice, peace,
reconciliation and mining.
These bishops therefore call on political actors
to support this dynamic for the promotion of the rule of law in the ACEAC zone.
During the meeting, Monsignor Marcel MADILA,
Archbishop of Kananga, was elected President of ACEAC while Bishop Vincent
HAROLIMANA, Bishop of Ruhengeri (Rwanda) is now 1st Vice President and Bishop
Bonaventure BIZIMANA, Bishop of Rutana (Burundi) as 2nd Vice-President.
Monsignor Antoine KAMBANDA of RWANDA and Monsignor
Dieudonné URINGI, Bishop of Bunia, were re-elected in their respective
positions of the Justice and Peace and Caritas commissions. They also renewed
the mandate of Father Jean-Pierre BADIDIKE as Secretary General of ACEAC for a
period of three years (2019-2022).
