Exclusive Interview with Dr Phil Clark, Author of Distant Justice
Scholar’s new book suggests the International Criminal Court (ICC) is on the brink of collapse – and now is the time for African states to show greater willingness to address mass crimes
Dr Phil Clark, Reader in Comparative and International Politics at SOAS University of London, has talked to TOPAFRICANEWS on his new Book Launch as well as the book’s linkage to Rwanda’s Traditional Justice System known as Gacaca.
The book, Distant Justice: The Impact of the International Criminal Court on African Politics (Cambridge University Press), is based on 11 years of field research and more than 650 interviews with ICC officials, African political and civil society leaders and everyday citizens in conflict-affected countries.
Dr Clark recently launched Distant Justice in Cape Town, Pretoria, Addis Ababa, Nairobi, Kampala and Gulu. The final stop on the book tour is Kigali on 24 May (2-4pm at the Marriott Hotel, hosted by the Aegis Trust).
