Rwanda reveals availability of Potential deposit of Uranium and Lithium among many minerals
Rwandan Officials has announced the discovery of “Lithium” and “Uranium” precious stones in the country of thousand hills, TOP AFRICA NEWS has learnt from IGIHE news website.
Gatare Francis, CEO of Rwanda Mines, Petroleum & Gas Board (RMB), told IGIHE that a study has shown that in Rwanda there are many places where “Lithium” is available adding that the country is even ready to begin extracting the mineral.
“Lithium is available in large quantities, and we are still working on the process and once we are done, we will begin extraction to increase production,” he said.
He added: “Many quantity is found in Muhanga, Ngororero districts in Gatumba, East Rwamagana and Bugesera district”
Gatare explains that Lithium is the most valuable mineral on the international market.
“Lithium is one of the most valuable minerals in the international market today, when you look at the direction all countries are taking, especially in the use of batteries, whether in cars or in electricity,” he said.
“It is important to pay attention to how it is mined and processed, so that it will not be lost ” he said.
RMB CEO, said they are now looking for investors to work together to make its mining operations more productive.
In addition to the fact that Lithium, there are other minerals that are not yet confirmed to be available, which also requires research
These include “Uranium” which is widely used in nuclear energy processing.
Gatare said there was still a long way to go in Rwanda to extract uranium from the mine, which he said could be scarce from extraction.
“Minerals from Rwanda, whether they are Gasegereti, Coltan, or Wolfram, often contain uranium radiation but also thorium,” he said.
“So in Rwanda there is uranium, there is thorium, but there was no research to find….”
