Construction of the Rusumo Hydropower plant nears completion
Authorities monitoring the construction of the Rusumo hydro-power plant have announced that it has reached 98.3%, and will be completed at a cost of 340 million dollars.
This was announced on the 9th February, 2023 after the Nile Basin countries authorities visited the construction works to see the progress.
The aim of the visit was also to share experiences and taking joint measures to preserve Nile river as a natural resource that unites these countries.
They came from countries including Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, South Sudan, Sudan, Egypt and Ethiopia. It is an activity organized through the Nile Basin Initiative.
The Rusumo Hydro-power plant will produce 80 Megawatts of electricity which will be shared between the countries of Rwanda, Tanzania and Burundi.
Currently, the construction work has reached 98.3%, and it will be completed at a cost of $340 million, that is, more than 340 billion Frw.
It was planned that these leaders will visit its parts located in Nyamugari Sector, Kirehe District, on the Rwandan side and Ngara District on the Tanzanian side.
On the Rwandan side, the officials who participated in the visit were led by the Director General of the National Weather Service, Meteo Rwanda, Aimable Gahigi and other officials from the Ministry of Environment, Infrastructure and those from the Rwanda Water Resources Board.
