Rwanda Launches Connect Rwanda Program Phase 2, Encourages Responsible Technology Use

As part of the Connect Rwanda program, Minister of ICT and Innovation Ingabire Musoni Paula urged citizens to use Smartphones effectively and avoid ICT related crimes. The message was delivered in Nyakarambi, Kirehe District, during the national launch of phase 2 of the program on Thursday, March 14.

Minister Ingabire emphasized the importance of Smartphones for all Rwandans and encouraged participation in the program. He stressed the need for responsible technology use to prevent falling victim to technology-related crimes.

Residents of Kirehe District welcomed the availability of affordable Smartphones through the Connect Rwanda program. Muhorakeye Fortune, a village leader, highlighted the benefits of timely information access, while Faustin discussed how a Smartphones would assist with agriculture and business activities.

MTN Rwanda Telecommunications Company Director Mapula Bodibe expressed commitment to ensuring every Rwandan has access to a Smartphone. Plans are in place for a special program to assist those unable to afford the phones.

The Ministry of Technology and Innovation announced the completion of 58 towers and 42 kilometers of fiber optic cables in Kirehe District to provide high-speed internet access. The program offers affordable phones with various plans, including one that costs Rwfr 20,000 with 100 minutes of calls, 100 SMS messages, and 1GB of data per day for 30 days.
