President Kagame urges new sports leaders to maximize potential for national benefit

President Paul Kagame has called on the newly appointed leaders of the Ministry of Sports to fully utilize their roles in benefiting the country and its citizens. This message was reiterated on Monday, December 23, 2024, as President Kagame administered the oaths of office to Minister of Sports Nelly Mukazayire, Minister of State Rwego Ngarambe, and the Minister of State in charge of the National Treasury in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning Godfrey Kabera.

President Kagame emphasized the importance of sports as a business driven by talent, which should ultimately contribute to the country’s resources. He highlighted the significant investments made in sports infrastructure to promote productivity and provide opportunities to more Rwandans.

The President urged the new leaders to take their responsibilities seriously and avoid making excuses for any shortcomings. He emphasized the need for all individuals in government institutions to fulfill their duties diligently, despite limited resources.

Rwanda’s sports facilities, including the BK Arena and the recently renovated Amahoro Stadium, have enabled the country to host various domestic and international competitions. Rwanda has made notable progress in becoming a sports hub in Africa, with achievements such as hosting the 2025 World Cycling Championships and being the first African country to host the FIA General Assembly.

The country is also actively involved in efforts to bring Formula One back to the continent, further solidifying its position on the global sports stage.
