Bweramvura: Esther’s Aid Culinary Arts School Launches Pilot Program to Combat Childhood Malnutrition in Community
Gasabo, Rwanda – February 7,2025– Esther’s Aid Culinary Arts School has taken a significant step in the fight against childhood malnutrition by launching a pilot program in the Jabana community of Bweramvura, Gasabo District.
The initiative, titled “Nutrition Education for Combating Childhood Malnutrition”, aims to reduce malnutrition rates in Rwanda by educating those responsible for preparing meals.
Recognizing malnutrition as a pressing national concern, Esther’s Aid is joining forces with existing players to create sustainable solutions.

As a Culinary Arts School, the organization emphasizes health and wellness through food, ensuring that proper nutrition is at the forefront of its training programs.
A key feature of the program is the involvement of the school’s graduates, who have emerged as “Nutrition Ambassadors.”
These graduates are leading a grassroots movement by training women in local communities, equipping them with essential knowledge on nutrition and healthy cooking practices.
This initiative not only empowers families but also fosters a culture of giving back to the community.
“Our movement will not stop until we conquer the giant,” Said, Ms. Clare Effiong, Esther’s Aid Country Director who is also the Founder.
“We are committed to ensuring that every child has access to nutritious meals, and we believe that educating those who prepare food is the key to making lasting change.” She added

With Rwanda still facing significant levels of childhood malnutrition, this initiative provides hope for a healthier future.
Independent research confirms the consequences of malnutrition should continue to be a significant concern for policy makers in Rwanda, where 38% or 661,200 children under 5 years suffer from chronic malnutrition (stunting or low height-for-age) and 37% or 643,800 suffer from anemia.
Esther’s Aid’s ultimate goal is to reduce malnutrition rates by promoting sustainable and informed cooking practices at the community level. Through education and empowerment, the Nutrition Ambassadors are set to transform lives—one meal at a time.
Mukaniyongoma Epiphanie, one of the mothers who benefited from the training, shared her appreciation for the program, highlighting its significance.

She stated, “Overall, this has been an enjoyable and invaluable experience. Learning how to prepare a balanced diet is truly a blessing. We discovered how to create nutritious meals using a variety of ingredients such as carrots, onions, potatoes, vegetables, chickpeas, and eggs. These are wholesome, affordable foods that are easily accessible within our community.”
Ms. Beatrice also shared her experience, stating, “The training has equipped us with valuable skills in preparing nutritious meals for both adults and children. We have learned how to prepare healthy food in a proper and hygienic manner.”
