World Vision Rwanda Hosts Golf Tournament and Gala to Boost Child Nutrition and School Feeding

Kigali — Golfers, partners, sponsors, leaders and friends gathered over the weekend for the Friends of World Vision Rwanda Golf Tournament and Gala Dinner, held under the theme “Driving Hope” to mobilize support for child nutrition and school feeding programmes across the country.

The tournament took place on Saturday, 22 August 2026, at Kigali Golf Resort & Villas, followed by a gala dinner that celebrated the generosity of participants and partners. The events form part of World Vision Rwanda’s ENOUGH Campaign, which calls for collective action to end child hunger and ensure every child has access to nutritious food.

Funds and partnerships raised through the initiative will support the organisation’s Integrated School Feeding Model in Burera District, one of the areas with a high burden of child stunting. The flagship project includes establishing a centralized school kitchen estimated to cost $500,000 (approximately Rwf 735 million). The intervention will cover eight schools and is expected to benefit around 8,000 children. Complementary activities include fruit-tree planting at schools and households to strengthen local food production and community ownership.

Pauline Okumu, National Director of World Vision Rwanda, has emphasized that proper nutrition is essential for children’s health, learning outcomes and long-term development. Organisers highlighted how sport and strategic partnerships can drive meaningful social impact beyond the golf course.

The tournament was played in a stroke-play format, with men competing in handicap categories of 0-9, 10-18 and 19-28, plus a senior category for players aged 55 and above. Women competed in the 0-18 and 19-36 handicap groups. Sponsors and partners, including media outlets and local businesses, joined the effort to advance the cause.

World Vision Rwanda described the day as a powerful demonstration of shared commitment, noting that every swing and contribution helps improve the health and well-being of vulnerable children. The organisation continues to work with communities, government and partners to expand access to nutritious meals and reduce malnutrition nationwide.
