Musanze District Inspires Collective Action for a Cleaner Community

Muhoza Sector in Musanze District officially launched a sector-wide hygiene awareness campaign under the theme “Isuku Hose Ihera Kuri Njye” (Cleanliness Starts with Me). The campaign aims to instill a culture of hygiene across all areas of life from homes and streets to workplaces promoting both personal and public cleanliness.
The launch event, held in the heart of Musanze town, brought together a wide range of participants including local traders, drivers, garage workers, hotel and restaurant staff, youth volunteers, and cleaning companies. Armed with banners and mobile loudspeakers, participants marched through the city, delivering strong messages on hygiene through visual and audio tools. Slogans encouraging collective action and personal responsibility echoed through the streets as passersby joined in the awareness.
Speaking at the event, Allan Ntambara, Executive Secretary of Muhoza Sector, emphasized that hygiene is not only a matter of health but also of dignity and development. He highlighted that the campaign is in line with national efforts to promote cleanliness and prevent disease, and he called on every resident to take ownership of their environment.
The campaign aligns with the sector’s broader goals, which include improving security, delivering on performance contracts (Imihigo) for the fiscal year 2025/2026, and reinforcing community involvement in development initiatives.
Residents expressed strong support for the initiative. Collette Umuhire, a vendor at the local market, shared her excitement: “This campaign is a wake-up call. We now understand that keeping our surroundings clean is our personal duty, not just the government’s job.”
Another participant, Jean Claude Habimana, a moto-taxi driver, said he’s committed to being a role model in maintaining hygiene around taxi parks.
Muhoza Sector’s message is clear and inspiring: “Tujyanemo, Tunoze Isuku Hose – Let’s Work Together for a Cleaner Community!” This initiative is not a one-day event but marks the beginning of continuous hygiene promotion efforts that will involve regular monitoring, education, and community-driven actions across all neighborhoods in Muhoza.
