“Bonjour Vacance” Inspires and Empowers Youth During School Holiday in Musanze

As part of efforts to engage students meaningfully during their school break, the Musanze District Youth Center organized a special event dubbed “Bonjour Vacance”, aimed at welcoming students into the holiday season with both entertainment and impactful education.

The event brought together students from across the district, along with government officials, security organs, parents, and youth representatives. It focused on equipping young people with life skills and values to help them make the most of their holiday while avoiding harmful behaviors.

Participants received crucial guidance on steering clear of drugs and other substances such as alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana, as well as risky behaviors like early sexual activity that often lead to unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. Students were also encouraged to respect parental guidance, stay focused on their academics, and choose their peers wisely.

“This event really opened my eyes,” said Emmanuel Niyonsaba, one of the attending students. “The lessons we received about peer pressure, drugs, and staying focused helped me rethink how I want to spend my holiday. I’ll make better choices and try to influence my friends to do the same.”

Divine Uwera, a fellow student, also appreciated the experience. “I learned a lot, especially as a girl. We were reminded to value ourselves and be careful with who we hang out with,” she said. “It gave me motivation to become a role model in my community and avoid negative influences.”

Chantal Mukarugema, a parent who attended the event, welcomed the initiative. “I’m so happy with what our children were taught. These are messages we’ve been wanting them to hear,” she shared. “Sometimes as parents we are not listened to, but when it comes from events like this, it really sticks with them.”

The event also featured an exciting entertainment segment, showcasing students’ talents through traditional dance, drama, comedy, singing, and martial arts.

Aimable Rwigamba, the coordinator of the Musanze Youth Center, explained the vision behind the program. “We organized ‘Bonjour Vacance’ not just to entertain students but to educate and empower them,” he said. “Our message is clear—use your holiday wisely, stay safe, and remain focused on your dreams.”

The event highlighted the district’s ongoing commitment to nurturing responsible, inspired, and healthy youth.
