A New Dawn for Health in Shingiro – Musanze: Mugari Health Post Brings Hope to Local Community

In Shingiro Sector, Musanze District, a wave of optimism is sweeping across Mugari Cell following the completion of a new primary health post.

Built through the Rwanda Development Board’s (RDB) Revenue Sharing program, the Mugari Health Post now stands as a symbol of transformation and equity bringing much-needed healthcare services closer to the people.

The facility, which officially began operations in early 2026, is equipped to provide essential primary healthcare services. These include general medical consultations, treatment of common illnesses, maternal and child health services, and other interventions aimed at improving the quality of life in the community.

For years, residents of Mugari Cell had to walk long distances to access even the most basic medical care. Pregnant women, the elderly, and young children were often the most affected. Today, things are changing.

According to local authorities, the facility will initially operate at the primary level but plans are already underway to upgrade it to a level two health center, which would allow for more advanced treatments, laboratory services, and minor emergency care.

Residents are hopeful that with continued support and responsible use of the facility, health outcomes in the area will improve significantly. The opening of this clinic has not only enhanced access to medical services but has also inspired a stronger sense of community resilience and optimism.

With Mugari Health Post now operational, Shingiro Sector steps confidently into a healthier and more empowered future.

Kevine IRADUKUNDA, a mother of two, expressed her relief and gratitude: “Before this clinic was built, I had to take my sick children all the way to Muhoza or Kinigi for treatment. It was exhausting, expensive, and time-consuming. Now, I can get help just a few minutes from home. This is a huge step forward for mothers like me.”

Vestine UWINGENEYE, a 60-year-old woman living in Mugari, shared how the health post will support older residents. “I suffer from high blood pressure, and traveling far for check-ups was a serious burden. With this new facility, I feel safer and supported. We’ve waited for this moment for a long time.”

For Donatien NDIKUMANA, a young father and farmer, looks that the clinic brings not only improved health access but also peace of mind. “We can now work in our farms knowing that if any emergency happens, healthcare is within reach. This changes how we live.”

The Mugari Health Post is part of a broader national strategy to bridge the gap between tourism revenue and local development. Under the Revenue Sharing Program, 10% of annual park revenues are invested back into communities surrounding national parks, including Volcanoes National Park near Shingiro.
