U.S. Ambassador Eric Kneedler Bids Farewell to Rwanda After Two-Year Tenure

KIGALI, RWANDA — After two and a half years of diplomatic service, United States Ambassador Eric Kneedler has officially concluded his mission to the Republic of Rwanda. In a farewell message, Kneedler reflected on a tenure defined by deep connections, strong partnerships, and a personal journey across the nation with his partner.
Kneedler highlighted the “strength and resilience” of the Rwandan people as a defining characteristic he encountered while visiting every corner of the country. He noted that his time in the region left him with a profound admiration for the spirit of the population.
A centerpiece of the Ambassador’s reflections was his experience hiking Rwanda’s five major volcanoes in just five days. Describing the trek as “demanding yet magnificent,” Kneedler used the physical challenge as a metaphor for the nation’s progress. He stated that the climb was symbolic of the “remarkable determination” shown by Rwandans in their efforts to build a better future.
The Ambassador further emphasized that international diplomacy mirrors such arduous treks, noting that “deepening and strengthening partnerships takes hard work”. He praised the joint efforts of both nations, which have worked tirelessly to advance peace and prosperity for both American and Rwandan citizens.
Expressing his sincere gratitude for the hospitality and friendship extended to him during his stay, Kneedler concluded his address with a phonetic Kinyarwanda tribute: “MURAKOZE CYANE, Rwanda” (Thank you very much, Rwanda).
