Rwanda, Angola Explore Parliamentary Diplomacy

Rwanda and Angola are exploring the strength of parliamentary cooperation and how it could be tapped into to complement traditional diplomacy.
The meeting served to assess the growing importance of parliamentary diplomacy as a complement to the traditional diplomacy conducted by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs.
The meeting took place between the President of Angola’s National Assembly, Adão de Almeida, and the Rwandan Ambassador to Angola, Charles Rudakubana.
Upon leaving, the Rwandan diplomat explained that the audience marked his first visit to the Angolan Parliament since Adão de Almeida assumed leadership of the National Assembly and considered the meeting “productive”.
During the event, the African regional context was also discussed, focusing on Angola’s role in promoting peace, security, and stability on the continent.

Rudakubana highlighted Angola’s involvement in conflict mediation processes in Africa, acknowledging its contribution to the search for negotiated solutions.
The diplomat particularly emphasized Angola’s role in mediating the conflict in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo, noting that the recent peace agreements reached were based on understandings and resolutions resulting from diplomatic efforts developed on national soil.
He also acknowledged that Angolan action at the regional level has been decisive in consolidating peace and strengthening political stability on the continent.
