314 tailors want funding from Rwanda’s BDF

314 tailors who have received certificates after the completion of the six months of Level 1 training in tailoring have requested the financing of Business Development Fund

314 tailors who have received certificates after the completion of the six months of Level 1 training in tailoring have requested the financing of Business Development Fund (BDF) in order to be able to put into practice the skills they acquired during the period of six months.

The request was made on Friday, May 03, 2019 at the official ceremony of handing over 314 certificates to tailors who have been trained by Delivery Excellent Service (DES) Company in close collaboration with JOC and Rwanda’s Workforce Development Authority (WDA).

In the Event which took place at Remera Sector Office, Nizeyimana Jean Claude, the Managing Director of DES Company said that the tailors have been trained after finding that “Despite being already in tailoring Business but they lack merit proof of what they are doing and that restrain them from accessing financial loans that can help them to boost their businesses.”

Nizeyimana added that “These certificates prove that they are professional tailors and we are sure that wherever they will present them requesting the financial support or loans it will be easier than to go without proof documents.”

However, Uwimana Alice who spoke on behalf of graduated tailors said “We have a challenge of accessing financial loans.”

“As you can see, we have completed these training but being trained doesn’t mean that we were unable of doing our tailoring work, what we had not were business skills and proof of what we do.” She explains.

“But today we have both of them: business skills and proof. So we take this opportunity to make our kind request to BDF so they can give us that funding support which will enable us to purchase advanced equipment like modern sewing machines, etc…”

However, the Executive Secretary of Remera Sector Kalisa Jean Sauveur who was the guest of honor at the event urged those who have graduated to join in cooperatives and that will ease the process of access to financial support.

“Form Cooperatives and follow the guidelines. Once you are together you will be able to work on joint projects that can be financed.” Kalisa said.

“SACCO and BDF will help you when you come up with an interesting project for funding” He added.

Numukobwa Olive also graduate and Professional tailor with about 18 years of experience in tailoring business said that “Joining in cooperatives is a good initiative that we support”

“With these WDA Certificates we can apply for funds and it could be even better if we request that fund as cooperative.” She added.

Since 2016, DES Company has enabled over 900 tailors to get certificates.

All tailors came from all sectors in the city of Kigali.
