Tap and Get Water Smart system in Huye, Rwanda

By Ange de la Victoire DUSABEMUNGU

Huye District of the Southern Province of Rwanda and World Vision Rwanda have officially launched a smart system using a smart card that is tapped on a dedicated machine to get clean water.

The system which is new in Rwanda was launched in Sekera Village, Kabatwa Cell, Kigoma Sector in Huye District.

The Mayor of Huye District Mr. Ange Sebutege explains that the milestone is achieved thanks to World Vision Rwanda.

Sebutege said, “In Sekera village, Kabatwa Cell, Kigoma Sector they are grateful that they have access to water all the time with the help of technology where every citizen has a credit card to use every time he needs to draw water. Thanks to World Vision Rwanda for these good deeds that help change the lives of the people”

Just because these citizens pay for water bills is not something special but something special is the technology used to draw water.

Usually people line up with jerks and draw in the traditional non-smart way. This is undoubtedly one of the ongoing activities to promote Cashless business in Rwanda. This method is common in Transport where a passenger has a card that he taps on a machine known as Tap and Go to pay for transport without using Cash.

Rwanda has implemented a green policy (Nat Strategy of Transformation, NST1) by venturing into a cashless and paperless economy by 2024

By this the country wants to trigger a mind shift and promote sustainable strategies in the long term
