The German Ambassador to Rwanda, Ambassador Heike Uta Dettmann, praised the opening of the Don Bosco Hospitality Centre in Kigali during her speech at the grand opening ceremony. The Centre’s main goal is to train professionals in the hospitality industry while also generating income for the Salesian Congregation in Rwanda.
Ambassador Dettmann emphasized the importance of vocational training and the service industry in Rwanda’s development. She highlighted the significance of the Centre in providing hands-on training for young people who may not have had the opportunity to travel or gain practical experience in the hospitality sector.
Ambassador Heike Uta Dettmann,
“I’m very happy that the German government is cooperating in financial support with the education system in Rwanda, and this specific jewel of teenage education aligns with the needs of the country and its young population,” Ambassador Dettmann stated.
She expressed her belief that investing in youth education is essential for the future of Rwanda, as young people are the driving force behind the country’s development. Ambassador Dettmann wished the Centre success and hoped that all students would find meaningful employment opportunities upon completing their training.
The Business Plan for this Centre was developed in Partnership with Horwath HTL Interconsult, an International Hotel & Tourism Consultancy active in Rwanda since 2012.
Through the business model, the Hospitality Center offers 35 rooms, 2 categories, restaurant, multi-functional hall for up to 600 seats among others.
The construction of this environmentally friendly center was generously supported by the Salesian Congregation through the Office of the Rector Major, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development-BMZ through Don Bosco Mondo, AGL (Africa of the Great Lakes) as a Salesian province, the Procures of Turin and Madrid, among others.
The inauguration ceremony on April 26th was a momentous occasion, symbolizing not only the commencement of a new chapter for the school but also a transformative step forward for the hospitality sector in Rwanda and beyond.
“At Don Bosco Hospitality Center, we are committed to train the next generation of leaders and innovators in the hospitality industry,” remarked Father Pierre Celestin Ngoboka, the Provincial Superior of AGL.
“Through our training programs, we aim to empower our students with the skills, knowledge, and experiences necessary to succeed in this dynamic field.” He added.
The Center’s curriculum extended beyond traditional education paradigms, offering a multifaceted approach that transcended mere theoretical understanding.
Father Ngoboka explained that “Apart from training the young people, the centre is well-positioned to offer quality and advanced Hospitality services to all persons who are willing to use the facility.”
As Rwanda continues to emerge as a hub for tourism and hospitality, the establishment of Don Bosco Hospitality Center represents a significant stride towards meeting the growing demand for skilled talent in the industry.
The Don Bosco Hospitality Center, strategically located in Gatenga, Kicukiro, Kigali, proudly announced its grand opening on April 26th, 2024, heralding a new era in both hospitality services and education in Rwanda.
