Israel’s Einat Weiss Commits to Boosting Agriculture and Breeding in Rwanda’s Gabiro Hub
Israel’s ambassador to Rwanda, Einat Weiss, has promised to assist in overcoming obstacles related to the establishment of a robust electricity distribution system for agricultural and breeding activities carried out in the Gabiro Agribusiness Hub Project (GAHP).
She announced her commitment on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, during a working visit to Nyagatare District to observe agricultural and breeding activities.
Ambassador Weiss visited the Gabiro Agribusiness Hub project, focusing on pumps built on the Akagera River for irrigation and electricity generation.
The Executive Director of Gabiro Agribusiness Hub, Aloysius NGARAMBE, received Ambassador Einat Weiss to discuss the project’s progress.
He said, “The infrastructure construction work will be needed, and the water pipes have reached 99%. So far, the problem is that some of the engines used to pump water and change the fire are not working properly and need to be changed with the participation of NETAFIM so that we can get enough fire, but we hope that it will be resolved through discussions.”
Ambassador Weiss, after being informed about the project’s operation, highlighted plans to coordinate parties for a project benefiting Israel and Rwanda, address existing obstacles within a week, and focus on problem-solving.
Ambassador Weiss also visited 45 milk-producing cows and a water pumping site from the Akagera River that has a depth of six meters, a width of 130 meters, and a length of 200 meters. She ended up at the channel that takes the water from the dam to the fields, spanning 36 kilometers from the Rwimiyaga Sector to the Karangazi Sector.
The Gabiro Agribusiness Hub Project (GAHP) aims to establish a comprehensive agricultural ecosystem, utilizing advanced water infrastructure, irrigation systems, and agro-processing operations across 15,600 hectares of arable land.
