Kigali: OIF Secretary General and Belgian Foreign Minister Discuss Political Climate and Strengthen Multilingualism

The Secretary General of the Organization of French-Speaking Countries (OIF), Louise Mushikiwabo, engaged in discussions with Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maxime Prévot, focusing on the political climate within member countries.
These discussions were held in Kigali on November 19, 2025, following the second day of the 46th Meeting of Foreign Ministers of OIF Member States.
According to a message posted on the OIF’s official account, they “explored the political landscape in French-speaking countries, Belgium’s role within the OIF, and the promotion of multilingualism in international organizations.”
In her opening remarks, Louise Mushikiwabo highlighted that the meeting was occurring amidst political unrest in some member states. She cited issues such as dissatisfaction with election results, which have led to unrest and protests, as well as general citizen dissatisfaction with various global and regional political issues.
She stated, “The OIF continues to play a positive role in addressing these diverse challenges by upholding the political integrity of our states and governments.”
Maxime Prévot had previously announced that during the Francophonie conference, his focus would be primarily on its agenda. However, he acknowledged that discussions on the bilateral relationship between Rwanda and Belgium would also be beneficial if the opportunity arose.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining ongoing dialogue and open communication channels to foster constructive discussions.
