Rise of infrastructure in Musanze district – Cyuve Tamac Roads Reaches 75% Completion

As part of efforts to accelerate the development of secondary cities supporting Kigali, Musanze District is expanding its tarmac roads infrastructure. One of the key projects is the construction of a road in Cyuve Sector, specifically in Kabeza and Rwebeya cells, which has now reached 75% completion.

Funded by the World Bank at a cost of Rwf 3.85 billion, the road is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. It will significantly boost connectivity, ease transport, raise land value, and improve access to services, thereby enhancing the city’s image as a hub for tourism and investment.

Local residents say the road is a game-changer. Clarisse Mukasano, a resident of Rwebeya Cell, shared: “Our lives are about to change. We used to worry about children getting injured on rocky paths, and vehicles couldn’t reach us. This road opens up real opportunities for development.”

Théoneste Mbarushimana, from Kabeza Cell, added: “Businesses had stalled due to poor roads, but now we’re preparing to open shops and bring services closer. The local economy will grow.”

Musanze District Mayor Claudien Nsengimana emphasized the strategic importance of the project: “This road is vital for connecting neighborhoods and supporting urban growth. We thank the community for their cooperation and assure them it will be completed on time and to standard.”

This project is part of the third phase of a larger initiative to construct 21.8 kilometers of tarmac roads across the district. It follows the successful completion of 6.8 kilometers in Muhoza Sector in 2023. Musanze currently has 86.26 kilometers of tarmac roads, with ongoing efforts expected to further modernize the district, promote investment, and improve citizens’ livelihoods.
