Kinyinya Sector Leaders Urge Citizens to Eradicate Genocide Ideology During Kwibuka32

KIGALI, Rwanda — April 2026 — Leaders in Kinyinya Sector have called on residents to intensify efforts to completely eradicate Genocide ideology, as communities across the country begin the Kwibuka 32.

The call was made during a commemoration event held in Gasharu Cell, where residents gathered to honor and pay tribute to victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, in which more than one million people were killed.

A Call for Unity and Collective Responsibility

Opening the event, Kinyinya Sector Executive Secretary Charles Havuguziga emphasized the importance of unity and collective responsibility in supporting survivors and safeguarding Rwanda’s future.

He urged residents to continue working together to comfort survivors while actively confronting any form of Genocide ideology.

“Today we begin the Kwibuka period, starting with the week of mourning as we mark the 32nd anniversary of the Genocide against the Tutsi,” he said. “We are called upon to stand together, to support survivors, and to find lasting solutions to completely eradicate Genocide ideology.”

Havuguziga warned against any actions or narratives that could reverse the progress Rwanda has made over the past three decades.

“We must prevent and strongly condemn those who seek to take us back into the darkness of our past,” he added.

Commitment to Survivors and ‘Never Again’

The sector leadership reaffirmed its commitment to standing alongside survivors, assuring them of continued support in collaboration with national institutions.

“We continue to offer our condolences to survivors,” Havuguziga said. “We remain committed to ensuring that what happened in 1994 will never happen again. Kwibuka is also a moment to exchange ideas and build a better future together.”

Youth Urged to Lead the Fight Against Genocide Ideology

The President of the Kinyinya Sector Advisory Council, Jean Baptiste Ndagijimana, placed particular emphasis on the role of young people in preserving Rwanda’s history and preventing divisionism.

He called on youth to take an active role in confronting harmful narratives and protecting national unity.

“Even though you did not witness the history we are commemorating, you have the responsibility to learn from it,” he said. “You must work with the Government to fight Genocide ideology wherever it appears.”

Ibuka Encourages Resilience and Hope

Representing Ibuka in Kinyinya Sector, President Uwamahoro Gaudelive encouraged survivors to remain strong and continue rebuilding their lives.

She expressed gratitude to the Government of National Unity for its role in restoring hope and dignity to survivors.

“We ask survivors not to be overwhelmed by sorrow, but to remain resilient and look toward a brighter future,” she said. “Kwibuka is everyone’s responsibility—it is a time to honor those we lost and to confront those who deny our history.”

Uwamahoro also underscored the critical role of youth in shaping a Rwanda free from Genocide ideology.

“Young people are the strength and future of our country. They must lead the effort to build a Rwanda that is completely free from Genocide ideology,” she added.

Remembering, Rebuilding, and Preventing

The event in Kinyinya Sector reflected the broader national message of remembrance, unity, and vigilance as Rwanda marks 32 years since the Genocide against the Tutsi.

As the 100-day commemoration period unfolds, leaders continue to stress that preserving memory, supporting survivors, and confronting denial remain essential pillars in ensuring that such a tragedy never happens again.
