With the support of UN Women Rwanda, from April 15, 2022, the Rwanda Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE RWANDA) hosted a two-day training for 30 Coaches with the aim of enhancing their skills that will enable them to coach and to mentor FAWE beneficiaries with different projects and show them how they can work with financial institutions to achieve their project goals.

Coaches will also support the Youth who were trained in Digital literary and Entrepreneurship to boost their business while at the same time supporting FAWE Youth who were trained under UN Women Rwanda support to be linked to financial institutions and secure loans for expansion.

Coaches who were trained have come from different professional Fields with different skills like IT, Banking, Entrepreneurship, Leadership, Health to mention but few and this will support FAWE Youth to grow and maximize their potential in different fields of specialization.

Ms. Antonia Mutoro, FAWE Rwanda National Coordinator

Speaking at the official opening of the training on Friday, 15th April 2022, Ms. Antonia Mutoro, FAWE Rwanda National Coordinator told participants at the training that “Coming here is not only commitment, but it is a sacrifice. So it shows your love, your commitment, your initiative, and the need to make FAWE grow and raise.”

She added that “The training is very important to add on your experience, what you know, what you have already done, and what you need to make you grow as well, but also support other young women and girls.”

As a specialised Coach Mr. Jerry Were said that such training is very important when it comes to supporting women and the girl child.

He added that “For over the last three years, FAWE Rwanda have been training and developing mentors, basically to support scholars and the young women and child girls. And then this is a new initiative, where now many of the FAWE Rwanda alumni that are out there making a difference in their careers are also going to use this as an opportunity to give back. So basically, what we are doing today is just to train them, so that they’re able to do it professionally, and so that they’re able to have a greater impact in the lives of the FAWE community.”

Mr. Jerry added that “This training is very important because coaching is about unlocking people’s potential to maximise their growth.”

“You will never know how much somebody has until you find a way of really getting that potential out and harnessing it and developing it. So basically, I believe that this is going to make a difference because this is the first group of 30 FAWE coaches. I believe that going forward, there’ll also be a need to have more people being trained to take up, you know, coaching and mentorship roles within FAWE to support the FAWE agenda in general.” He said.

Commenting on the acquired skills, Ingabire Doris, a banker who participated in this training of FAWE Coaches said that “as a banker, one of the things that I have benefited from the training is to understand how to ask, to listen, and to also learn how to have a direct communication.”

“Second of all is to invest time to learn how to know mentee strengths and weaknesses. Another thing that I also learnt that is key is to learn how to bring out the best from people. Really what I am looking forward to doing is to understand the strength, understand the best that the mentee have in them, and also help them identify their passion and shape together a way to reach their potential” Ingabire added.

With her experience, Ms. Jacqueline Kamanzi Masabo, the Executive Secretary for the National Women Council confirmed that the skills that coaches are acquiring will help them to coach young women to be better leaders.

“Due to self-improvement, we are going to make an impact at our places of work, at our places of influence in our families and we hope this will be a very comprehensive programme, and a very bigger programme for ourselves, for family and for our Nation.” She said,

Ms. Kamanzi also added that “this human life requires training, by all means, right from childhood. People need to be attended to, they have to be given the right skills, the knowledge they need. So, this is a good platform for us, for women, especially those who have acquired experience, to think of how we can support our peers, but also to think of raising a future generation equipped with knowledge and skills, to give back to the community in different ways.”

“Women need to be supported, girls need to be supported, they need to be brought up in an environment that allows them to contribute politically, socially, economically, you know, in the whole setting of the nation and to position themselves in the national development, given the National Strategic Plan.” Ms. Kamanzi said during an Interview shortly after participating in the Day 1 of the training.
