South African President Ramaphosa due in Uganda

President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, which is part of the axis that led to current fallout between Rwanda and Uganda, has been invited to Kampala by President Yoweri Museveni.

South Africa is where the Rwanda National Congress (RNC) was formed and its leader Kayumba Nyamwasa lives there under heavy security by South Africa’s elite police unit.

In a wide ranging interview with regional weekly The East African last month, President Paul Kagame said the problems Rwanda has with Uganda emanate from South Africa.

Uganda is financing and facilitating RNC and its allied groups to organize both in Uganda and DR Congo, according to Kigali.

Kagame has met Ramaphosa several times in the past two years, and most recently last week.

President Ramaphosa is expected in Kampala today for 2-day trip. Officially, he has been invited by Museveni for the Africa Now 2019 summit taking place march 12-13, 2019.

The summit is on the theme, “Towards a Secure , Integrated and Growing Africa.”

Other leaders expected include President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed of Somalia, Tanzanian Vice President, Samia Hassan Suluhu and Kenyan Deputy President, Dr William Samoei Ruto.

The event organizers provoked a social media scandal. On the program, it was written “Keynote Speaker, H.E. Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Uganda.”

It is unclear who is representing Rwanda, or if Kagame will be there.
