Through Public-Private Partnership, Zero-emissions electric buses are now making their way onto the streets of Kigali.

The recent example is between BasiGoRwanda Company and USAID Innovation.

This groundbreaking initiative, backed by a $1.5 million USAID investment, aims to support climate-resilient solutions in Rwanda.

The introduction of electric buses marks a significant step towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable transportation in the country.

The USAID Deputy Mission Director, Keisha Effiom, said “this innovative project is set to make a lasting impact on Rwanda’s public transport system.”

By investing in electric buses, Rwanda is demonstrating its commitment to combating climate change and embracing cleaner, more environmentally friendly alternatives. These buses, powered by zero-emission electric technology, will not only help reduce air pollution but also contribute to a greener and healthier future for the people of Rwanda.

The collaboration between BasiGoRwanda and USAID Innovation exemplifies the importance of international partnerships in addressing global challenges. Through this joint effort, the two organizations are paving the way for sustainable development and setting an example for other countries to follow.

As Rwanda continues to work to reduce by 38% its GHG emissions, private sector shall not left behind.

The USAID-BasiGoRwanda partnership serves as a symbol of the U.S’s dedication to reducing emissions and supporting climate-resilient solutions in Rwanda.
