Democratic Green Party of Rwanda Celebrates Achievements and Looks Forward to 2024 Elections

In a statement released by Dr. Frank Habineza, the President of the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda (DGPR), the party expresses its gratitude to all Rwandans and state institutions for their contributions to the great achievements of 2023. As the year comes to a close, the party also extends its wishes for a happy and prosperous new year in 2024.

One of the major accomplishments of the DGPR in 2023 was the establishment of the Party Women Wing and Youth Wing structures in all four provinces of the country and the City of Kigali. This followed the successful establishment of youth and women structures in all 30 districts earlier in the year.

In September, the DGPR held a national youth congress, leading to the formation of the National Youth Greens League. The Young Greens elected their national leaders and further strengthened their structures at various levels. Similarly, in December, the party held a national women congress, resulting in the establishment of the National Women Greens League after electing national women leaders.

To ensure the effectiveness of these newly established structures, the DGPR conducted trainings on various topics including party ideology, gender equality, democracy, elections, and environmental protection.

Additionally, the party focused on strengthening existing structures at the district level and held elections to choose new leaders where necessary. In May, the DGPR held a national party congress that brought together leaders from all 30 districts and different provinces, as well as the City of Kigali. During this congress, party members amended party statutes and elected members of the central executive committee. Dr. Frank Habineza was elected as the party’s flag bearer and presidential candidate for the upcoming elections in July 2024.

Looking ahead to 2024, the DGPR expresses optimism and reaffirms its commitment to preparing for the upcoming general elections. In the coming months, the party plans to unveil a new political program and manifesto, as well as confirm parliamentary candidates.
