Swedish Delegation Visits Gakenke District to Ensure Support Reaches Beneficiaries

A group from Sweden recently visited Gakenke District to ensure that the support provided by the country to Rwanda in the program to lift people out of poverty is reaching the intended beneficiaries.

The delegation, which included members of the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) and Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) led by Ms Britta Olofsson, visited various activities in the District and engaged with the local community.

The support provided by the Swedish government includes subsidies for different categories such as support for Mothers, light manual work, regular manual work, maternity support, childcare, and skills development training.

The team visited different sectors in Gakenke District, meeting with individuals benefiting from these programs, including Mothers receiving support at Nemba Health Center in Nemba Sector and a Home Based Early Childhood Development (ECD) program in Cyabingo Sector.

Mayor of Gakenke District, Mukandayisenga Vestine, highlighted the importance of donors visiting to see firsthand how their aid is being utilized and the impact it has on the people.

She emphasized the positive outcomes of programs such as financial support for mothers and the VUP program in improving the lives of those in need.

The support provided by the Swedish government has benefitted over 11 thousand individuals in Gakenke District, with a focus on empowering women and lifting people out of poverty.
