KIGALI: Women’s Day Awareness Walk at Muhazi TVET

On Wednesday, 13 March, Don Bosco Muhazi TVET School celebrated International Women’s Day with ceremonies held at Gasagara Cell in Gikomero Sector. The day, which is internationally and nationally recognized on 8 March, was commemorated through the Gender Matters for Green TVET project.

Students, along with Gender Officer Ms. Aurore NIYITANGA and Job Service Officer Mr. Jules SUGIRA, engaged in discussions about the national theme of the day, “30 years: A woman in development,” and the international theme, “Invest in women: Accelerate progress.”

Dean of Students, BUCYEYENEZA Francoise, highlighted the importance of investing in women, noting their proficiency in financial matters and meticulous approach to wealth management. Student NYIRAMUTUZO Jeanne, studying Tailoring trade, emphasized the impact of providing equal opportunities to women in Rwanda’s development post-Genocide against Tutsi.

Gender Officer NIYITANGA Aurore urged women to aspire for greatness and make the most of the opportunities presented to them. She emphasized that Women’s Day is not about excluding men but rather recognizing the historical marginalization of women in society. She also encouraged men to support women’s initiatives, citing their proven ability to drive progress across various sectors.

Following the discussions, students participated in an awareness walk showcasing women’s strength in accelerating progress in Gasagara sector. As a gesture of support, Gender Matters for Green TVET project donated trade suits to 8 women students pursuing masonry trade, traditionally considered a male-dominated field. Additionally, in a bid to promote gender equality, five trade suits were presented to male students studying tailoring, a trade typically associated with women.
