Rwanda’s Education Sector Takes the Lead in Budget Allocation: 792.7 Billion RWF to Enhance Quality and Infrastructure

The education sector is projected to cost Rwandan francs 792.7 billion, making it the most expensive sector in the budget.

Education accounts for 14% of the total budget of 5,690 billion RWF for the Fiscal Year (FY) 2024-2025. The education sector, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning (MINECOFIN), says it has allocated this budget to enhance the quality of education for students.

Building new schools and equipping them alone will cost 7.9 billion RWF, including the construction of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) schools as well as the construction of new classrooms.

The funds that make up the education budget include funds for primary school feeding programs and teacher training programs to support student nutrition and teacher qualifications.

Education is followed by the infrastructure sector, which has been allocated 579 billion Rwandan francs. Of these, 263.4 billion RWF will go to transport, 204.5 billion RWF will be invested in energy, and 111.4 billion RWF will go to water infrastructure.

The health sector in Rwanda has been allocated 376.3 billion Rwandan francs, while the agricultural sector has been allocated 232.3 billion RWF.
