Rwanda appoints Jean-Guy Afrika as new CEO of Rwanda Development Board

Jean-Guy Afrika

Rwanda’s President, Paul Kagame, has selected Jean-Guy Afrika as the new CEO of the Rwanda Development Board (RDB), starting from 13 January 2025.

Afrika takes over from Francis Gatare, who has moved on to become the Senior Economic Advisor to the President.

With a background in public policy, regional integration, and export promotion, Afrika brings a wealth of experience to the role as Rwanda aims to consolidate its position as a premier investment and tourism destination in Africa.

Afrika’s appointment comes at a crucial moment for Rwanda’s tourism strategy, with the RDB playing a key role in fostering economic growth and international competitiveness.

Having held key positions at the African Development Bank and the East African Community in the past, he is well-equipped to enhance Rwanda’s tourism infrastructure, attract investments, and elevate its global standing in both leisure and business travel.

With a proven track record in policy reform and export development, Afrika’s leadership is expected to bolster Rwanda’s attractiveness to investors and tourists alike.
