Rwanda Opens a New Chapter in Air Connectivity as SalamAir’s First Flight Lands in Kigali
Rwanda has marked milestone in its drive to strengthen global connectivity after Oman’s low-cost carrier, SalamAir, successfully operated its inaugural direct flight from Muscat to Kigali.
The aircraft landed at Kigali International Airport on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, officially inaugurating a new direct air route expected to boost tourism, trade, investment, and business links between Rwanda and the Sultanate of Oman.
The arrival of SalamAir’s first flight signals the beginning of regular direct services between Kigali and Muscat, further expanding Rwanda’s growing network of international destinations and reinforcing Kigali’s position as one of Africa’s emerging aviation hubs.
Under its initial schedule, SalamAir will operate twice-weekly flights, with services running every Tuesday and Thursday. The new route is expected to offer travelers from both countries faster and more convenient access while creating new opportunities for business, leisure travel, and cultural exchange.
The direct connection is also anticipated to strengthen economic cooperation between Rwanda and Oman by facilitating the movement of investors, entrepreneurs, and tourists. Improved air connectivity is widely regarded as a key driver of trade and investment, making it easier for businesses to explore new markets and establish commercial partnerships.
For Rwanda’s tourism industry, the route opens an additional gateway to visitors from Oman and the wider Gulf region. The easier access is expected to increase the number of international tourists seeking to experience Rwanda’s unique attractions, including its world-renowned mountain gorillas, rich biodiversity, vibrant culture, and expanding meetings and conference sector.
The launch also reflects Rwanda’s continued commitment to positioning Kigali as a regional transport and business hub through expanded international aviation partnerships. In recent years, the country has attracted more international airlines as part of broader efforts to improve global accessibility and support economic growth.
For SalamAir, the Kigali route represents another important step in the airline’s international expansion strategy, extending its footprint into East Africa while offering passengers greater travel options across the region.
