Rwanda Joins African Leaders in High-Stakes AU Meeting in Luanda

Rwanda has joined African leaders gathering in Luanda, Angola, for the 21st Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU), with Prime Minister Dr. Justin Nsengiyumva representing President Paul Kagame at the high-level meeting.

Prime Minister Nsengiyumva arrived in Luanda ahead of the summit, which is scheduled for Sunday, August 30, 2026.

His participation on behalf of President Kagame highlights Rwanda’s continued engagement in continental affairs and its commitment to contributing to discussions on issues of strategic importance to Africa.

The extraordinary session brings together Heads of State and Government from across the continent at a time when African countries are pursuing stronger cooperation and coordinated responses to shared challenges.

Representing President Kagame, Prime Minister Nsengiyumva is expected to take part in the deliberations and engagements of the summit, conveying Rwanda’s perspectives on matters affecting the continent.

The Luanda meeting provides an important platform for African leaders to exchange views, strengthen coordination and advance common approaches to priorities facing the continent.

Rwanda has consistently participated actively in African Union processes, supporting efforts to strengthen continental institutions, promote African unity and advance cooperation among member states.
