Angola’s President travels to Rwanda ahead of quadripartite summit for Uganda and Rwanda

The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, travels today to Rwanda, to participate in the quadripartite summit for the normalization of relations between Rwanda and Uganda.

According to a note from the Secretariat for Institutional Communication and Press Affairs of the President of the Republic of Angola, the quadripartite summit, announced earlier this month, takes place at Gatuna / Katuna, near the border between Rwanda and Uganda.

In addition to the presence of the Angolan Head of State, the meeting will also bring together the presidents of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, Rwanda, Paul Kagame, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Félix Tshisekedi.

According to the note, the meeting of the four presidents was decided at the most recent summit of the group, which took place in Luanda, on the 2nd of this month.

Tomorrow’s summit is the fifth dedicated to overcoming the tensions between Rwanda and neighboring Uganda, which have lasted for several years.

The first summit took place on May 31, 2019, in Kinshasa (DRC), while the city of Luanda hosted the other three, held on July 12, August 21, 2019 and February 2, 2020.

The President of the Republic of Angola will return to Luanda tomorrow, after the end of the summit.

On Friday, the Ad Hoc Committee for the implementation of the Luanda Memorandum of Understanding between Rwanda and Uganda met in Kigali to assess the progress achieved.
