Global Environment Facility launches New Logo

The Global Environment Facility has launched a new brand identity to reflect the expanded scope of its work to protect and restore the planet’s health.

Over the past three decades, the GEF has grown from a pilot program into the world’s largest source of multilateral funding for environmental action. Its grants, blended finance, and policy support helps developing countries tackle the root causes of biodiversity loss, climate change, and pollution.

The GEF is now a “family of funds,” including targeted sources of support for biodiversity, climate change adaptation, climate reporting, and access to benefit-sharing, and is ready to serve as a financial mechanism for additional environmental priorities as requested by member governments.

GEF CEO Carlos Manuel Rodríguez said the new logo, which adds blue to the green “planet” shape, represented the increased ambition to end degradation of the planet in all its forms, including through the “30×30” goal to protect 30 percent of the world’s ocean and land by 2030.

“At the end of the day, there is no green without blue. The new GEF logo reflects the reality that investing in our planet means focusing on the blue economy as much as the traditional aspects of conservation,” the former environment minister of Costa Rica said. “A new, more modern look also speaks to our growing engagement with civil society and young people.”

The visual identity will connect the GEF with its component funds including the Least Developed Countries Fund, Special Climate Change Fund, Capability Building for Increased Transparency, Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit-sharing, and the soon-to-be-established Global Biodiversity Framework Fund.

“I am proud of the growing role and relevance of the GEF in this time of international crisis that requires our full attention. The GEF’s family of funds will be well served by the modernized, synchronized brand identity that makes our unity of approach clear,” Rodríguez said.
