BURERA: Eng. Mutsindashyaka, SG of REWU Reveals the high importance of Employment Contracts for Workers’ Security and Well-being
On August 22nd, 2023, in Burera District, the District administration, district partners, and officials from the Ministry of Labor and Public Service gathered in a “Decent Work and Employment Promotion Dialogues.” Similar to other districts, the objective is to collectively address labor matters and collaboratively identify potential solutions, with a specific focus on the job creation for youth.
During the meeting, REWU was represented by the Secretary General, Eng. Andre Mutsindashyaka, who reiterated his request for workers to be provided with contracts that enable their development.
Eng. Mutsindashyaka stated that having a contract ensures that a worker can work in a safe environment, with provisions for pensions and coverage for accidents and work-related incidents.
Additionally, having a contract enables the worker to secure loans and create job opportunities, which aligns with the country’s objective of becoming a middle-income nation by 2035 and achieving economic self-sufficiency by 2050.
Furthermore, Eng. Mutsindashyaka highlighted the benefits of having a Trade Union in the company, as it enhances productivity and promotes the overall well-being of the workers.
He also presented the outcomes of the collaboration between REWU, RMB, UNICEF, and NCDA, which has resulted in mining sector employers establishing ECDs to aid workers and residents in combating stunting and malnutrition among children. He calls other employment sectors to promote ECD centres at workplace.
