Afua Asantewaa: Ghanaian media personality surpasses Guinness World Record for longest singing marathon

A Ghanaian lady Afua Asantewaa Aduonum has successfully ended the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by an individual, exceeding the previous record set by India’s Sunil Waghmare.

Clad in the national flag of Ghana and speaking in a raspy voice, she expressed her gratitude to the assembly of admirers in Accra.

The 33-year-old was obviously worn out and could hardly recall the day. She broke the previous record for the longest sing-a-thon by almost 24 hours, starting on Christmas Eve, but she still has to wait to find out if her efforts will be recognized formally.

Ms. Asantewaa performed for 126 hours and 52 minutes, according to the organizers. Guinness World Records stipulated that she could take a five-minute break every hour or twenty minutes after four hours.

Entrepreneur and former beauty queen Ms. Asantewaa, speaking in a croaky voice, expressed her hope that the marathon “would be an inspiration to all women… to come out of your comfort zone and try new opportunities… when you put your mind to it you can achieve it”.

Particularly on Christmas Day, a lot of well-wishers were drawn in by the continuous crooning. Some of the biggest music stars in the nation, such as Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, and Sarkodie, were present. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president, arrived along with a plethora of actors, actresses, and influencers.

Afua’s accomplishment surpasses the official record of 105 hours held by the well-known Indian singer Sunil Waghmare. Unofficially, she sang for 126 hours and 52 minutes, which was 21 hours longer than Waghmare’s record.

At the age of 14, Sunil Waghmare began his musical journey. He went on to become famous in 2012 when he broke the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon. According to local media, Afua is merely passionate about music and is not a professional musician, unlike Sunil.

Hundreds of people came out to support Afua Asantewaa.

With Afua Asantewaa Aduonum’s incredible achievement, the music industry has reached a new height and demonstrated the unwavering determination of those who are dedicated to pushing the envelope of artistic possibility.

The whole record attempt was filmed and there were also named witnesses who will submit a report to Guinness World Records.
