BRD Wins big at the Capital Markets Africa 2024 Awards
The Development Bank of Rwanda (BRD) has been honoured with the Bonds, Loans and ESG Capital Markets Africa 2024 award for ESG Bond Deal of the Year.
The recognition for most innovative and ground-braking deals from Africa follows BRD’s launch of the inaugural Sustainability Linked Bond in September 2023.Â
This recognition highlights BRD’s dedication to innovation and sustainability in financial markets.
The award-winning achievement stems from BRD’s launch of the Rwf30 billion inaugural bond, a milestone that set new standards locally, regionally, and globally. The seven-year bond which was listed on the Rwanda Stock Exchange affirms BRD’s commitment to establishing environmental, social and governance for partner financial institutions, increasing women-led business loans and providing affordable housing.Â
The Sustainability Linked Bond is not just a financial instrument; it serves as a powerful catalyst for investment in not only projects that add value to the economy, but to projects that have a positive impact on the environment. BRD’s strategic vision to mobilize private capital for sustainable finance will set a standard for other financial institutions in the region to follow.
