Rwandan Company AgroPlast Ltd Honored for Tackling Plastic Pollution on World Environment Day
Kigali, Rwanda – June 6, 2025 – AgroPlast Ltd, a Rwandan plastic recycling company, received recognition from the Ministry of Environment on World Environment Day for its outstanding contributions to combating plastic waste and turning it into viable solutions. The award was presented during the World Environment Day celebrations, held this year under the theme “Ending Plastic Pollution.”
AgroPlast Ltd, under the leadership of CEO Mr. Leon Nduwayezu, has distinguished itself by collecting plastic waste from various towns and sites across Rwanda and transforming it into valuable agricultural products. These products include tubing for tree nurseries, durable trash bags for waste collection, and sheeting for agricultural purposes.
Before AgroPlast Ltd started manufacturing these items, they were primarily imported from other countries, draining local resources. Now, the company’s initiatives also provide employment opportunities for community members, thereby boosting the local economy.
Mr. Nduwayezu spoke about the origins of AgroPlast Ltd in connection to waste management. The government started collecting all the plastic waste laying everywhere in the country. After the wastes were stored in districts, Mr. Nduwayezu had the idea of what he can do from those plastic stored in districts and started producing plastic tubing for nursery purposes. AgroPlast is an effort towards reducing pollution for the environment.
