AFC/M23 Rebels Clash With FARDC in Kinyumba

Vilotent clashes broke out between AFC/M23 rebels and Congolese troops supported by Burundian army and Wazalendo militia in Masisi territory early Saturday.

Precisely heavy gunfire was heard in Kinyumba (Masisi territory) in North Kivu.Kinyumba is a town located about 10 km north of Nyabiondo, on the road to Pinga.

According to sources, rebels attacked Nyabiondo held by the government coalition in an attempt to regain control.

Traffic between Nyabiondo and Pinga has been suspended. Fear is spreading in Nyabiondo, and residents have remained indoors.

The clashes occurred 24 hours after an airstrike by the FARDC (Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo) that targeted a rebel position in Nyabiondo. The operation resulted in three civilian injuries.
