Amplifying Development Impact

Minister Uwimana Consolee Urges Rwandans to Build Purposeful and Stable Families

In Rwanda, families are the cornerstone of society, yet domestic conflicts continue to undermine the well-being of citizens. Issues such as infidelity, lack of trust between spouses, poverty, alcoholism, and limited support from local authorities negatively impact Rwandan families, particularly affecting children, women, and men.

The Minister of Gender and Family Promotion, Uwimana Consolee, has called on Rwandans to build stable families that are purposeful and development-oriented. She emphasized, “Supporting strong families is a crucial step toward creating a safe nation and improving the overall well-being of citizens.”

Several residents spoke to Top Africa News about the causes of domestic conflicts. Jeanette Mukamana, a resident of Huye District, said, “Infidelity, mistrust between spouses, and poverty are major factors that keep families trapped in persistent problems. Alcoholism only makes the situation worse.”

Eric Niyonzima, a resident of Huye City, noted, “Sometimes local authorities fail to address family issues. This leaves problems unresolved and makes families more vulnerable to ongoing negative consequences.”

Minister Uwimana Consolee urged Rwandans to prioritize building stable, goal-oriented families. She explained, “By focusing on stability and purpose, families can reduce conflicts, improve well-being, and contribute to national development.”

Research conducted by the Rwanda Governance Board (RGB) highlights the most pressing challenges facing Rwandan families, including domestic conflicts, infidelity and mistrust between spouses, hostility, property-related abuse, teenage pregnancies, marital separation, and physical abuse. Recent statistics indicate that domestic conflicts affect approximately 17 percent of Rwandan households, underscoring the need for strong measures to promote family stability.

Building stable and purposeful families is the responsibility of every Rwandan. Citizens and government authorities are urged to work together to resolve conflicts, promote unity and security within households, and improve overall family well-being. Minister Uwimana Consolee calls on all families to “foster cooperation, solidarity, and resilience in order to achieve sustainable national development.”
