Kivu Belt Water Supply Project Reaches Key Milestone with Completion of Karongi Treatment Plant
Karongi: Construction of the Water Treatment Plant has been successfully completed, marking a major milestone in expanding access to safe and reliable water in Rwanda’s Western Province.
With a treatment capacity of 13,000 cubic metres per day, the plant has commenced supplying clean water to residents across Karongi District, particularly in the Rubengera and Bwishyura sectors.
The facility is the first phase of the Kivu Belt Water Supply System project, which is expected to provide safe drinking water to more than 130,000 residents.
Beyond improving household access to clean water, the project will also strengthen service delivery for health facilities, schools, hotels, businesses, and other public institutions, supporting improved public health and socio-economic development.
The Government of Rwanda remains committed to expanding access to safe drinking water and ensuring sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services for all Rwandans.
