Hunt for Rwandan and Burundian rebels underway in South Kivu

The Congolese army and the UN mission forces in the DRC are tracking Rwandan and Burundian rebels in South Kivu province, RNA reports

This announcement was made by the Governor of South Kivu, Claude Nyamugabo, in a meeting with civil society actors, religious groups and representatives of the Banyamulenge and Bafulero communities.

“Peace must be restored in the localities of Uvira territory, Bijombo, Fizi and the plain of Rusizi,” he said.

He added that FARDC (Congolese army) and elements of MONUSCO (UN mission) will be deployed to bring peace and stability.

“Of course, it’s their primary mission to hunt down these rebels. The FARDC are in sufficient numbers and have the necessary means to carry out the operation, “said Claude Nyamugabo.
