Diplomatic clashes between Kosovo and Serbia at the UN General Assembly

Kosovo and Serbia have once again clashed at the United Nations General Assembly. Kosovo leaders have held numerous meetings with representatives of different countries in order to secure more recognitions of the country’s sovereignty.

On the other hand, representatives of Serbia have campaigned against the recognition of Kosovo. On the sidelines of the assembly, Kosovo’s Foreign minister, Behgjet Pacolli met with two foreign ministers whose countries have not yet recognized Kosovo’s independence, namely, Foreign minister of Bahamas, Darren Allan Heinfield and Rwanda’s Foreign minister, Louise Mushikiwabo.

These meetings have discussed Kosovo’s achievements in the past decade, the consolidation of the state of Kosovo and its integration in European and international organizations. The sides have also discussed the possibility for the recognition of Kosovo as an independent state, in order to join the majority of UN members who have already recognized Kosovo.

However, the Serb Prime Minister, Ana Brnabic has expressed her discontent about Pacolli’s lobbying. In a brief encounter with the Kosovar diplomat, Brnabic told him that he had come without an official invitation.

Meanwhile, Serbia’s Foreign minister, Ivica Dacic has asked representatives of the countries who have already recognized Kosovo to withdraw their decision.

He added that “soon, Pristina and Tirana will be only ones to recognize Kosovo”. /ibna/
