Burundi Government condemns the renewal of the UN Inquiry Commission

Burundi government has condemned, in a communiqué read out by the Secretary-General and Spokesman of the Government, Mr.Prosper Ntahorwamiye, the renewal of the UN Commission of Inquiry on Burundi, the Burundi government’s statement published Monday said.

The communiqué stated: “The Burundi government has indignantly heard the vote on the 39th resolution session of the UN Human Rights Council renewing the mandate of the Commission of the investigation while the latter was already rejected”.

UN reports ‘politically motivated and unmanned’ are ‘null and void’.

“The Burundian government, says the statement, wishes to inform the national opinion and that resolution, as well as the “politically motivated and unmanned” reports that have preceded, are “null and void”.

The communiqué also notes that the report presented on 17 September in Geneva by the UN Commission of Inquiry on the Burundian situation, is both “defamatory and false” with the aim of “discrediting” democratically elected institutions and “sowing doubt and discord” within the Burundian population.

For these reasons and “in accordance with the guidelines laid down by the meeting of the Council of Ministers of October 3, 2018 “, the Burundian government set up a commission to make the outline the various “unilateral and unjust” decisions, and to make an “adequate” decision, according to the same release.
