UN Security Council To Hold Closed Meeting On Burundi
On Thursday, the United Nations Security Council will convene behind closed doors to discuss the situation in Burundi according to a provisional program seen by Taarifa.
Details also indicate that France will be chairing this meeting.
Last year in June, the Security Council was briefed on Burundi as it was preparing to hold the recently concluded elections.
Concerns were raised about the worrisome human rights situation, with many reported violations of fundamental civic and political freedoms. During the same briefing then, it was noted that Burundi was experiencing rising prices and the humanitarian situation remained largely unchanged, recurrent climatic hazards putting 1.8 million people at risk of food insecurity.
Last year some speakers at the UN security Council did not want Burundi to remain on the Council’s agenda.
