Rwanda takes COVID 19 random testing to Churches
Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC) on Saturday, October 3, announced that 400 Covid-19 sample tests shall be collected on Sunday, October 4, in some churches around Kigali in a bid to assess the prevalence of the virus, THE NEW TIMES reports.
Also to be tested will be randomly selected people participating in outdoor exercises under car-free day, a mass sporting initiative organised by the City of Kigali.
In a tweet, RBC said: “This Sunday 04/10/2020, we are randomly collecting 400 Covid-19 test samples from 3 churches in Kigali (Cathédrale Saint-Michel, EAR Remera & ERC Masoro) as well as from 3 car-free day sites/routes (KBC/KH, IPRC Kicukiro & Car-Free Zone).”
Therefore, RBC added, we kindly request cooperation from the public.
According to RBC, the random testing exercise carried out this week in Kigali’s main roads and entry points revealed that of the 2000 samples collected, only two samples tested positive.
Covid-19 update
Meanwhile, on Saturday, Rwanda recorded five new Covid-19 cases.
Of these, four were detected in Kigali, whereas the remaining one was confirmed in Nyamagabe district, Southern Province.
On the same day, 14 people recovered from the pandemic, according to the daily update from the Ministry of Health.
The latest results were obtained from 2,568 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.
In total, Rwanda has carried out 502,817 tests of Covid-19.
The country has been recording single digits of new Covid-19 daily cases since Tuesday this week and registering many recoveries at the same time.
Since the outbreak of the pandemic in Rwanda, the country has confirmed a total of 4,852 Covid-19 cases of whom 3,211have already recovered.
The country’s Covid-19 death toll so far stands at 29 people.
