Rwandan teachers to take English test

Two years later, the Ministry of Education through Rwanda Education Board, REB, has announced that it is considering how teachers in primary, secondary and TVET education and school leaders are taking the English test after which they will be trained based on proficiency levels.

In a Tweet REB said “The Ministry of Education is organizing an English Language Standardised Test for Primary school teachers, secondary school teachers, TVET trainers and school leaders after which they will be trained based on proficiency levels.”

In July 2018,  REB Director Dr Ndayambaje Irenée said that the quality of education starts from teachers which is why the examination program was set up.

Two years later, in a message posted on Twitter on October 4, 2020, REB informed all teachers that they will start the examination as timetable is announced.

” REB would like to inform all teachers and principals that everyone will do the English language test scheduled for them, regardless of the training or English exams one has taken in the past,” The tweet said.

It has been 12 years since Rwanda started using English in education.
