At the initiative of Valerie Ka, international model, Africa Fashion Up is the first major Parisian event dedicated to contemporary African fashion in France, whose goal is to recognize and encourage a burgeoning African fashion.
Still unknown to the general public, African fashion is increasingly dynamic. Its growing influence is revealed by the emergence and positioning of several African houses on an international scale and in the adoption of its codes by brands and designers around the world.
For this second edition, prestigious sponsors will accompany the event and will therefore integrate the selection committee of the competition, among them: the great haute-couture house Balenciaga, the luxury cosmetics brand Sisley, the department stores Galeries Lafayette, the Africa Fashion Foundation (AFF), the fashion school Istituto Marangoni, the men’s magazine GQ by Conde Nast, the Diversity & Inclusion Officer LVMH, the brand creation agency specializing in fashion, design and beauty Karla Otto among others, the restaurant and club group Beaumarly, the women’s magazine Brune Magazine.
Also associated with the event are the business school HEC Paris, and the media groups France Médias Monde, Brut, Trace and finally 35°Nord, the communication and press relations agency focused on Africa.
The 5 winners selected by a jury of international experts will benefit from a week’s immersion behind the scenes of the fashion capital of the world, Paris. All of them will benefit from a complete accompaniment: during a 2-day stay, the BALENCIAGA haute couture house will open its doors to give them advice and encouragement. They will have the opportunity to participate in masterclasses, to visit the BALENCIAGA workshop, and to meet with fashion world referents. In addition, the winners will have access to a management training delivered by the HEC business school and will actively participate in a 4-month mentoring program with Balanciaga. Their collection will be displayed and sold on an international website.
