On Sunday, 21st August 2022, Bishop Philippe RUKAMBA of Butare Diocese presided over the celebration of the silver Jubilee of St. John Bosco Rango Parish, which was created in 1996. The celebration of the Jubilee was preceded by the Eucharist. It was attended by Father Pierre Celestin NGOBOKA, the Provincial superior of the Salesians of Don Bosco in the Africa of the Great Lakes Province (Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda), various religious groups, priests born in the Rango parish, the vice mayor of Huye district, local authorities, Christians of Rango parish, and other leaders from various institutions.

During the Mass, Bishop Philippe RUKAMBA of Butare Diocese expressed his gratitude to  all the Christians of Rango Parish for the good work they have done since the establishment of the parish .

The vice mayor of Huye District in charge of economy and development affairs, André KAMANA, in his speech said that love is the step that will lead to cooperation in building healthy citizens with a healthy soul.

He commended the salesians for the continuous work they are doing to support the economic development of the district and the country as a whole.

Father Pierre-Celestin NGOBOKA said that the purpose of the church is to bring people together, to protect them, unite them and help the needy and those who are suffering.

He also said that a Jubilee is not what people see at that moment, dressing well, singing together, being happy and everything else that is done on the Jubilee Day. “Jubilee is the time to look back and look at where people came from and where they are,” he said.

He concluded by thanking the leaders and Christians of Rango Parish adding that the church has grown up and wishes to continue progressing.

Bishop Philippe RUKAMBA, of Butare Diocese, in his closing remarks thanked the Salesians for the way they care for young people by building short-term vocational training schools, so that young people can make a living and become good citizens and good Christians.
