Don Bosco Mondo Support Brings Food, School Materials and Hygiene Kits to Vulnerable Children in Rango

RANGO, Rwanda — Vulnerable children supported through the Don Bosco Youth Centre in Rango have received essential assistance, including scholastic materials, food supplies, hygiene kits, and other basic necessities aimed at improving their well-being and supporting their return to education.

The support was provided under the project “Don Bosco Children for a Better Future: Support for the Reintegration and Education of Vulnerable Children in Rango,” implemented by Œuvres de Don Bosco with the support of Don Bosco Mondo e.V. The project seeks to restore dignity and create brighter futures for particularly vulnerable children in the communities of Sahera, Mukura, and Tumba.

The project agreement identifies 50 children between the ages of 10 and 16 as the main beneficiaries. Many of them face difficult socio-economic conditions, limited access to food and education, unstable family situations, or a lack of adequate care and protection.

Responding to Basic Needs

The recent outreach focused on responding to some of the immediate needs of the children. The assistance included food supplies, school materials, and hygiene kits, helping the beneficiaries prepare for school and maintain better standards of health and personal care.

The distribution of scholastic materials is part of the project’s broader education objective, which aims to facilitate the reintegration of children into the formal school system and provide them with the materials necessary for learning.

The project also includes regular food support, psychosocial care, family counselling, recreational activities, and measures to strengthen family reunification.

A Safe Place for Vulnerable Children

The Don Bosco Youth Centre in Rango provides a safe and supportive environment where vulnerable children can receive care, participate in recreational activities, access educational support, and develop positive relationships.

Father Olivier Hakizimana, who is responsible for the daily activities of the Centre, commended Don Bosco Mondo for the important support provided to the children.

He highlighted the value of the assistance in responding to the needs of vulnerable young people and strengthening the Centre’s efforts to accompany them toward a more secure and hopeful future.

The support also contributes to the project’s goal of reducing the number of children spending their days and nights on the streets by connecting them with education, care, family support, and community-based services.

Building Brighter Futures

Through the project, Don Bosco aims to improve the living conditions, dignity, health, self-esteem, and future prospects of vulnerable children.

The initiative targets not only the immediate needs of the children but also their long-term development. Through education, family counselling, psychosocial support, life-skills training, and community awareness, the project seeks to help children reintegrate into their families and society.

The intervention is supported by a partnership between Don Bosco Mondo e.V. and Œuvres de Don Bosco under project number PR26AGL052, with implementation scheduled from August 2026 to July 2027.

For the children of Rango, the recent assistance represents more than the distribution of material items. It is a practical expression of solidarity and a step toward restoring dignity, strengthening protection, and opening new opportunities for a better future.
