Rwanda’s Bold Move: Strengthening Forces in Cabo Delgado to Combat Terrorism

In a recent development, Rwanda has decided to deploy more forces to Cabo Delgado Province in Mozambique to help combat the ongoing insurgency.

The Rwanda Defence Force Chief of Defence Staff, Lt Gen Mubarakh Muganga, briefed security forces ready to be deployed on Saturday.

The briefing took place at Kami Barracks, where the troops were given an overview of the situation in Cabo Delgado and the objectives of their mission. Rwanda’s decision to add more forces to Mozambique comes as part of an effort to address the security crisis in the province.

Cabo Delgado has been facing a severe insurgency with armed groups wreaking havoc and causing displacement of thousands of people. The violence has resulted in a humanitarian crisis, with many civilians becoming victims of the attacks.

Rwanda’s decision to contribute more forces to the mission is a testament to its commitment to regional security and the fight against terrorism. It also reflects the close ties between Rwanda and Mozambique, as both countries have been cooperating in various fields, including defense and security.

The deployment of Rwandan forces is expected to enhance the capabilities of Mozambique’s security forces and provide much-needed support in their efforts to counter the insurgency. This move also demonstrates the willingness of the international community to assist Mozambique in restoring peace and stability in the region.

Lt Gen Mubarakh Muganga conveyed to them the message from the President of Republic of Rwanda and Commander in Chief of Rwanda Defence Force, H.E Paul KAGAME.

The CDS reminded the troops that commitment and discipline are key to success in operations adding that “The mission is still the same; to maintain Mozambican State authority by conducting combat and security operations, as well as stabilization and security sector reform.

He also told them that the previous contingents did a great job and this must be maintained.

This deployment is based on the good bilateral relations between the Republic of Rwanda and the Republic of Mozambique.

The departing Rwanda Security Forces will be under command of Maj Gen Alexis Kagame.
