Britney Spears announced quitting music?

Britney Spears announced her retirement from the music industry in a since-deleted Instagram post, but says she still ghostwrites.

It’s been eight years since fans heard a new Britney Spears album, and it appears that “Glory” was a send-off, as the pop star announced she’s done with the industry that drove her insane.

Britney Spears took to social media to address rumors that she was working on new music with Charlie XCX and Julia Michaels (who we assume are big names on the scene?), doubling down on the fact that you shouldn’t get your hopes up. “Just to be clear, most of the news is garbage!!! They keep saying I’m going to hire random people to make a new album…I will never work in the music industry again!!!” Surprisingly, the post has since been removed…

This is unfortunate news, though not entirely unexpected given her previous comments about retiring. While Britney Spears has passed her peak as a pop superstar, when she redefined the genre and gave it a new face, she remains an undeniably powerful face in music. But she was treated so badly by so many people, including her own family, that some people can understand why she would want to leave the industry, or at the very least continue on her own terms. Her highly publicized conservatorship ended in 2021, giving Spears more freedom to pursue her career as she saw fit. Her memoir, The Woman in Me, was a recent success, selling over a million copies in its first week.

Nonetheless, Britney Spears will continue to play a role in modern music, even if fans aren’t sure what it is.

“When I write, I write for fun or I write for other people!!! For those of you who have read my book, there’s loads that you don’t know about me. “I’ve written over 20 songs for other people the past two years!!! I’m a ghostwriter and I honestly enjoy it that way !!!” Britney concluded her post.

Beginning with…Baby One More Time, which featured the title track, “(You Drive Me) Crazy,” and “Sometimes,” Britney Spears’ albums have sold over 150 million copies worldwide.
